Giving your life to Christ is just the beginning of a powerful and amazing journey. There’s more to just saying, “I confess Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.” As a new believer, you need to stay rooted in Christ so that your faith can be nurtured. But how can you do this? The points highlighted in this article will help you stay rooted in Christ as a new believer and grow toward spiritual maturity. I encourage you to go through these points keenly and apply them in your faith journey.
Embrace Fellowship
“And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing but encouraging one another.”
Hebrews 10:24-25 NIV
As a new believer, staying connected to a group of believers who inspire and encourage you can be very helpful in your faith journey. Firstly, Jesus instructs us in Hebrews 10:24-25 to embrace fellowship and spur one another. When we embrace fellowship with fellow believers we can worship him in one accord. God wants us to fellowship with one another so we know we are not alone. Christian fellowships will help you learn how to pray and read the Bible, among other things that are significant in your faith journey. I encourage you to join a Christian group that meets daily or weekly to learn about Jesus and the kingdom of God.
Spend Time in Prayer
Prayer is the direct line of communication with the Lord. Through prayer, we can seek the guidance and direction of God in our faith journey. In Isaiah 30:21, God promises that He will always direct our paths. However, we cannot hear Him directing us if we do not spend time in prayer. Additionally, Jesus Himself emphasizes the importance of prayer in His teachings. He even went ahead and taught His disciples how to pray. To stay rooted in Him, we must obey His teachings and devote ourselves to prayer. Prayer strengthens our inner man, helps us stay alert and overcome temptations, and strengthens our relationship with God.
Develop a Daily Bible Study Habit
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:16-17 NIV
We learn powerful and helpful things from the Word of God. It corrects us when we falter, trains us how to live righteous lives, and teaches us how to stay rooted in Christ. Furthermore, our faith in God is built when we read His Word, Romans 10:17. The Bible reveals to us the character of God and through it, God speaks to our hearts. We are encouraged and inspired by the stories of faith, victory, and grace found in the Bible. The promises in God’s Word help us to trust in Him. God’s Word is the sword of the Spirit and it wages off the enemy’s attempts to bring us down.

“But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.” 2 Peter 3:18 KJV
To stay rooted in Christ as a new believer, pray, embrace fellowship, and make Bible study a regular part of your life. When you do this, your faith in God will grow and you will draw closer to Him than you ever thought. I encourage you to practice the above steps and fully devote yourself to God. Never give up on your faith journey no matter what comes your way for God will always be with you.
