Women go through a lot in life that can drain all their energy and strength. From juggling countless responsibilities at home and the workplace to navigating through disappointments and betrayal, they carry so many burdens on their shoulders. This is why they need a supportive community that can provide a shoulder for them to lean on. They need to feel a sense of belonging and self-worth. And this can happen through the help and support of a community of believers.
Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 reads, “Two are better than one because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.”
The Bible in Ecclesiastes 4:9-10 illustrates the importance of community not only for Christian women but to all people. You see, if you have someone who can hold your hand in times of distress and encourage you to press on, you will find the strength to soldier on and face whatever comes your way. If you fall, the other person can stretch out their hand and help you get back on your feet again.
The Power of Community of Women
Let’s look at an example of how community support played a significant role in the life of an exemplary woman in the Bible.
When Esther learned that Haman had plotted to destroy her people, she sought the support of her community. In Esther 4:16, Esther says;
“Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.”
A community of believers is helpful because they can pray for you and with you when you are in the face of danger. Remember that there is great power in joint prayers. The Bible says in Matthew 18:18-20;
Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. “Again, truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
The joint prayer of Esther, the Jewish community, and Esther’s attendants turned the tables around. The evil plan that was plotted against them was redirected to their enemy. Together, they rendered powerless the weapon formed against them. Heavens responded to their cries and they were saved from destruction.
Let Us Stay Together as Women
Dear sisters, when the going gets tough, don’t die in anguish alone. Reach out to the people around you and let them support you in fighting your battles. I encourage you to join prayer groups for women, Bible study groups and Christian fellowship associations. As you share your struggles, victories, and testimonies amongst yourselves, your hope for a better tomorrow will be renewed. And as you pray together, what you bind will be bound by God and what you lose will be loosed.
